The trains are coming to downtown Kennesaw for a fun-filled day of toot-toot, chug-chug trainspotting inside the Southern Museum January 26-27, from 9:30 am–5 pm. This year’s event will include new and expanded layouts that offer attendees the opportunity to interact with and operate a variety of trains. Layout enthusiasts from Georgia and the Carolinas will make their way to the Museum to set up and operate layouts of various scales and sizes for the enjoyment of visitors young and old alike. Athens Bend Track returns this year to create a massive N-Scale layout in the Cobb Energy Gallery.
Other participants include the Chattanooga Modular Modelers, Georgia Tinplate Trackers, Georgia Garden Railway Society, and the Eastern Carolina Railroaders to name a few. An expanded General Emporium gift shop will offer a wide range of new train and railroad-themed items, available exclusively at the event. Museum educators will facilitate a train themed kids’ craft to make and take home.
“Trains! Trains! Trains!” is our most popular annual event and we are gearing up for what is sure to be our best experience yet,” said Dr. Richard Banz, executive director. “We are proud to host an event where families can share in the nostalgia and appeal of model trains and make memories that will last a lifetime.”
Dixie Precast is the title sponsor of this year’s event. Museum admission is $7.50 for adults, $6.50 for seniors, and $5.50 for children ages 4 – 12. Museum members enter free. The Museum will not accept general pass coupons, guest passes, and other discounts on the day of the event.
